The True Power of Speech is a groundbreaking exploration of the mitzvah
of shemiras halashon - guarding one's tongue - and the extraordinary
spiritual impact our words have on ourselves, others, and the fabric of
Creation itself.
In a world saturated with harmful speech and judgment, Rabbi Mendel
Kessin offers a rare, deeply intellectual and spiritual approach to lashon
hara (derogatory speech), revealing its unseen consequences and the
profound role it plays in the unfolding of redemption. Unlike typical
mussar works that merely exhort, this book takes the reader on a hashkafic
journey - explaining the inner mechanisms behind harmful speech and
how it affects Divine systems, the soul, and the structure of reality.
Drawing from Chazal, the teachings of the Chofetz Chaim, and his own
original insights, Rabbi Kessin illustrates how refraining from lashon hara
can elevate a person to the highest levels of reward in Olam HaBa, and how
collective speech refinement can hasten the coming of Mashiach.
With clarity, depth, and urgency, this book empowers readers to understand
the true magnitude of their words and inspires lasting transformation -
both personal and cosmic. It is not just a book about speech; it is a road
map to spiritual greatness and national redemption.
Many of our fellow Jews have been strengthened by your
profound lectures, especially in matters of lashon hara.
Rav Shmuel Kamenetsky shlita
Rabbi Mendel Kessin shlita was zocheh to bring down the
great light of the precious mitzvah of shemiras halashon.
His shiurim served as the inspiration for the founding of
the Chofetz Chaim Heritage Foundation. If I lived a million
years, I would never be able to thank him enough for what he
has done. I bless every person who reads this sefer that their
hearts should be open to the wisdom of Rabbi Kessin - this
will be one of the most significant things you do in your life.
