The title "The Rav, " literally: the Master, attests to the status of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik (1903-1993) as the preeminent teacher of Modern Orthodox Jewry. His mastery of both traditional talmudic-halakhic scholarship and modern philosophy engaged students intellectually and spiritually, and he possesed a felicitous style of both oral and literary presentation made the Rav a byword in Orthodox Jewish law and lore for more than half a century.
Dr. Moshe Sokolow is the Associate Dean of the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and holds the Fanya Gottesfeld-Heller Chair in Jewish Education. He has published several books and numerous articles on theoretical and applied aspects of Bible and Jewish education, including TANAKH, An Owner's Manual, and Studies in the Weekly Parashah Based on the Lessons of Nehama Leibowitz. He is the editor of both volumes of The Azrieli Papers, as well as TEN DA'AT: A Journal of Jewish Education. He is also author of Texts and Topics, essays on Jewish writings and occasions, to be published by Kodesh Press.
